After watching the movie Food.Inc Liz and I began asking ourselves some tough questions when it comes to what and how we eat. We began asking questions such as how would we buy non commercialized meat? Where would we get things to cook if we didn't purchase them from a supermarket? Would we starve if we stopped buying all of our products from Wal-Mart or Kroger? All paths to answer these questions seemed to be dead end roads. We decided to do what we do when ever a dispute comes up in our home.....Google it!
When we did we came up with great suggestions for local farmers in the area and how you could purchase our food items from them. Liz then began searching for answers on different blog sites and found answers! Clay and Emily Jones a couple who moved to Seattle a couple of years ago from Memphis and good friends of ours have been searching as well and found a new way to eat. Their search landed thousands of local farmers of where you could purchase grass fed cows. They also discovered a way to join CSA groups in their area to purchase fruits and veggies all from one great site. We were so excited to find this and immediately got online and searched our area for farmers who also took part in this.
The results were amazing. The website LocalHarvest.org is an amazing site that gives you thousands of farmers in your area that sell fruits, veggies, and meats that can be delivered to your doorstep ready to eat! I am so excited about this. You are basically helping the local business sector in your area and also eating fruits and vegetables that have not been chemically distorted at the same time. Pretty cool eh?
The meat process worked the same way. From this site you can find thousands of farmers near you by simply searching by zip code located on right hand side of the page. You will get tons of local farmers in your area that you can purchase grass fed meat from. You again will get leaner meat from a local farmer who will benefit from your purchase. (Prices will vary) This is what we ended up with from the farm closest to us.

Enough beef for say.......2 years! We also ordered 1/4 of a pig that we will receive late spring. Currently we are in the process now of purchasing a deep freezer to store our meat and will keep you posted on how this goes. I am just pumped that we could get this done. And for less than what we would pay for it at a store. I would challenge all of the readers to look into this. We found that it is not as hard as it seemed. Lets be more focused on what we allow into our bodies! Its the only one we have!

Awesome!!!! Way to go, y'all! Not many people would be open to making so many changes all at once. I haven't heard of buying part of a pig before, but it's a good idea, I need to look into it! I also want to look around for some chickens! =) I'm also glad to hear that you were able to find this stuff in the Memphis area, you'll have to share your sources with me whenever we eventually move back.
